Founder & CEO of Kids4abetterworld
Sagarika Sriram is the 15 year old Founder/CEO of Kids4abetterworld ( est. 2017) – who used her knowledge of Coding and Web development to create an innovative ”Kids for Kids” technology platform that connects young children to drive Sustainability projects in their communities. She lives in Dubai , United Arab Emirates . At the age of 10 years, Her love for animals and nature sparked her passion for environmentalism , when she watched a NatGEO video on whales which had washed up onshore as a result of an oil spill and turtles founds dead with plastic in their belly. “ I could not understand how our actions as humans were causing so much harm to the environment “, she commented. K4Bworld conducts awareness workshops on Sustainability, Recycling & Waste management projects , Beach and Desert clean ups and projects related to Marine Conservation. It aims to Educate , Motivate and Activate children to conserve Natural Resources , protect Biodiversity and positively impact Climate Change. Through a unique incentive system called the Green Cart , children who are K4BWorld members earn points for their Eco- friendly activities such as Recycling, Reducing Single Use plastic ,Saving Water and Energy at home and Planting trees in order to redeem instant rewards. This system motivates children towards rewarding behavioural change as they learn to track their progress against defined goals and reduce their individual carbon footprint. K4B World also launched the Happiness Project to promote sustainable living which focuses on building a deep connect with Nature. The Happiness Project activities relate to home gardening ,tree planting , composting and creation of natural personal care products with recyclable and reusable packaging. By conducting workshops at schools , K4B World promotes its projects and encourages children to become Eco warriors. The organization has included Children of Determination creating workshops specifically designed to help them participate in protecting the environment. Today with close to 90,000 visitors to its platform and growing media presence, Kids4aBetterWorld has motivated children to work toward protecting the environment and safeguarding their future. Sagarika is also a Climate Adviser with CRIN ( Child Rights international Network) and a Youth Ambassador with Azraq ME – a Marine Conservation NGO in the UAE. Her work has been widely recognized in the UAE and globally by the UNEP and UNESCO Learning Planet. Sagarika believes that children must adopt Sustainability as a way of life in order to create a long lasting environmental and social impact. This is not possible, unless it is incorporated in their formal education system , which the UAE places great emphasis on. Hence , in 2021 , Kids4aBetterWorld is working on tabling a formal proposal that includes mandatory Climate education in the curriculum of schools across the UAE .
